Historic Promotion: Ranchers Bees to Become NPFL’s Fifth Privately Owned Club
Ranchers Bees have completed a remarkable return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), sealing promotion after a 16-year absence from the top flight.

The Kaduna-based club secured their place among Nigeria’s elite sides after finishing top of Conference D in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
Ranchers Bees NPFL Promotion Marks Historic Comeback
Ranchers Bees earned promotion with a total of 20 points from 11 matches, edging their rivals in a tightly contested group. Their decisive 2-0 victory over Kebbi United proved crucial in confirming their place in the NPFL.
Promotion from the NNL is granted to the winners of its four conferences, and Ranchers Bees did just enough to finish ahead.
Alongside them, Beyond Limits, Akwa United, and Doma United also secured promotion to the top division.
This achievement marks a major milestone for Ranchers Bees, who last competed in the NPFL during the 2009–10 season. Their return signals a fresh chapter for one of Nigeria’s most historic football clubs.
Ranchers Bees Revival Driven by New Ownership Vision
Founded in 1974 and based at the Kaduna Township Stadium, Ranchers Bees have a rich history in Nigerian football.
Originally known as DIC Bees, the club reached the Nigerian Cup final in 1983 and later enjoyed continental success by winning the WAFU Cup in 1989.
Over the years, Ranchers Bees built a reputation for developing talent, producing notable players such as former Super Eagles striker Daniel Amokachi.
However, financial and administrative struggles in recent decades led to a steady decline, pushing the club out of the top tier.
The turning point came last year when Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq became a co-owner alongside Bello El-Rufai.
Despite playing in Europe, Sadiq invested in the club with a clear goal—to restore Ranchers Bees to their former status.
Following the takeover, the new ownership moved quickly to stabilise the club. A new leadership structure was introduced, financial issues were addressed, and plans were set in motion to rebuild both the squad and the club’s identity.
A key part of the vision also includes developing a football academy to secure long-term success.

That strategy has already delivered results, with Ranchers Bees achieving promotion in just one season under the new structure.
Ranchers Bees Set for NPFL Challenge
Ranchers Bees will enter the NPFL as one of the few privately owned clubs in the league.
Their return not only highlights a successful sporting campaign but also reflects a broader revival of a historic institution in Nigerian football.
As they prepare for life back in the top flight, expectations will be high. The focus now shifts to building a competitive squad capable of holding its own against established NPFL sides.
For Ranchers Bees, this promotion is more than just a return—it is the beginning of a new era.
