Public Service Games: Team Rivers Shines in Athletics Event

As sports events continued to take centre stage in Rivers State with the Public Service Games reaching its climax, The University of Port Harcourt served as a ground for the Track and Field events which Team Rivers saw achieve great success.

Starting from the field event, In the Long Jump women’s final event, Boma Orlu of Team Rivers came second with a jump of 3.96m just .27m shy of Gold which was won by Amos Chidiebele of the Nigerian Ports Authority with a jump of 4.23m. Favour Nduka of Science and Technology came third with 3.78m.

Heading over to track in the Womens 800m Final, Nwilene Victoria of Team Rivers ran to finish line with a time of 3:10:45 in the Women’s 800m Final the event to secure Gold for her side as Dapmwa Yohanna of the Nigerian Port Authority came in second with 3:17:59 and Blessing Kolajo of the FIRS finished third to snatch the Bronze at 3:30:87s.

The Mens 400m final event also saw Team Rivers race to victory as Belly Tonye won Gold with a time of 51:29s, Newman Unazi of FMYD came second in 54:44s and Chukwu Mathew of the Ministry of Science and Technology finished in 55:13s for Bronze.

Team Rivers were yet again dominant but this time in the relay event specifically as they had a clean sweep in all categories; the Women 4×100 Relay final, Mens 4×100 Relay final and Mixed Relay final. The results are as follows:

Gold: Team Rivers – 58:49s
Silver: NPA – 1:02:30s
Bronze: Education – 1:04:22s

Mens 4×100 Relay final Result

Silver: FMYD – 48:46s

Mixed Relay final result
Gold: Team Rivers – 52:22
Silver: NPA – 55:71
