For weeks, residents of Daki Biyu, a settlement in Jabi district, Abuja, have been struggling due to a prolonged power outage that has left businesses in distress and homes in discomfort.

The blackout has hit business owners the hardest, forcing many to shut down temporarily.

Shops that depend on electricity such as salons, restaurants, fashion outlets, and pharmacies are either barely functioning or completely closed.

In an interview with Kristina Reports, a resident and new father, Samuel Okonkwo described the sleepless nights his family has endured due to the outage.

“My baby wakes up crying every night because of the heat. We try using hand fans, but it doesn’t help much. We need light, especially now.”

An hairstylist, Miss Joy, shared how the situation is crippling her livelihood.

“This is terrible for business. I rely on electricity to work, and now I have to turn away customers. I heard some people are bypassing the meters, and now we’re all paying the price.”

Business owners say they are spending too much on fuel to stay afloat.

A restaurant owner, Mrs. Bisi Ade, explained how the rising cost of running a generator is pushing her to the edge.

“I throw away food every other day because I can’t store it properly. If I keep buying fuel at this rate, I won’t even make enough to pay my workers. Something must be done fast.”

The community, which shares boundaries with Jabi, Wuye, and Citec Villa, has four transformers located at 44 Junction, Mango Tree, Market, and White House.

However, all have been faulty, causing the prolonged power failure.

An official from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Jabi, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that the issue has been reported to the headquarters.
