NYCOP President Returns To BMGS Bori After 26 Years, Donates Books To Students

Twenty-six years after leaving Birabi Memorial Grammar School, BMGS, Bori, as a student, the President of the National Youth Council of Ogoni People, NYCOP, Barinuazor Emmanuel, has returned to his alma mater to give back.

Emmanuel, who also leads the Joint Representative Council, JRC, of Ogoni Youth Groups, visited the school on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and donated books to students on behalf of the apex Ogoni youth body.

Speaking to the students, Emmanuel said his journey from the classrooms of BMGS to becoming NYCOP President was proof that education, determination and focus can take anyone to the top. He recalled wearing the same uniform, sitting on the same seats and playing in the same compound as the current students.

“If I could make it from this same BMGS to become President of NYCOP, you too can make it to the top,” he said.

He explained that the donation was in line with Article 2, Paragraph 10 of the NYCOP Constitution which mandates the Council to promote the educational, economic and cultural advancement of Ogoni youths.

The youth leader urged the students to remain serious with their studies, noting that BMGS is known for producing leaders and that they could become governors, doctors, engineers, lawyers and leaders of organisations in future if they stay focused.

He warned them to avoid cultism, drug abuse and violence, describing them as dream killers, and assured them of NYCOP’s continued support for education in Ogoniland.

“Think Ogoni, Think Peace,” he added.
