As political parties in Rivers State make plans for the October 5, 2024 local government elections, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission(RSIEC) has informed that no court order can stop the commission from conducting the forthcoming LGA Polls.
Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebeli rtd., Chairman, RSIEC.
This position is believed to have doused the misgivings entertained in some quarters that the elections might not hold due to unresolved legal impediments.
Recall that the All Progressive Congress had earlier approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) from releasing voters registers to RSIEC.
However, Chairman of RSIEC, Adolphus Enebeli rtd, while addressing journalists recently during a training session of master trainers for RSIEC staff held at the Justice Mary Odili institute in Port Harcourt, noted that the commission is fully prepared for the elections emphasizing that the scheduled date is sacrosanct because there is no Court Order restraining the commission at the moment.
Enebeli also informed that section 15 of the electoral act as amended mandates the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to give RSIEC the voters register during elections.
