The Rivers State Government has dismissed speculations that the State Executive Council and Local Government Councils in the State have been dissolved.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson gave this clarification on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 in response to Kristina Reports enquiry on the issue.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Rivers State, Joseph Johnson

Johnson, who spoke over the phone, said he was unaware of any such dissolution.

Speculations were rife on Monday, October 30, 2023 that the embattled Governor had sacked his executive council alongside chairmen of the 23 LGAs in the State.

This came amidst attempts to impeach the Governor by loyalists of his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, over disagreements that were yet unclear as at the time of this report.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications later issued a statement which he personally signed and made available to Kristina Reports titled “UNFOUNDED REPORTS”, and it reads in part:

“There have been unfounded reports making the rounds on various media platforms about His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.

This is to clarify that His Excellency has not given me such directive as the official spokesman of the State government as at today Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Our dear governor is a technocrat, with robust civil service background, kind hearted and a very humane person who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.

We therefore ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who and who may have been removed by His Excellency at the appropriate time.

It is pertinent to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I shall keep the public updated of events in due course.”
