Abuja residents are struggling to fill their tanks because many NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) stations across the city have closed, causing divers and other residents to panic.

NNPC is said to be having some logistical issues, meaning they’re having trouble getting petrol where it needs to be. This has led to long lines and frustrated drivers at the few other stations that still have fuel.

Upon visiting stations in places like Airport Road, Zone 3, Zone 5, and Kubwa, Kristina Reports found all the outlets closed with attendants sitting around, unable to help.

One worker at a Zone 3 NNPC station, who spoke on the condition of anonymity explained that they’d been out of fuel for two days. “We’re just waiting for more to arrive,” he said.

Another attendant in Lugbe, named Stella, explained that they’d sold their last drop of petrol. “There has just been a problem with bringing fuel to us. But it will be solved soon, I am sure,” she said.

A management staff at the NNPC station in Kubwa confirmed the problem. He said it was due to some internal changes at NNPC, and that things should be back to normal soon, hopefully by next week. He also mentioned that the price of petrol is still ₦965 per litre.

“‘There has just been a little bit of restructuring at the top. All these are to ensure smooth operations, everything will return to normal soon.”

The whole situation seems to be making life difficult for people in Abuja. Abdulazeez, driver who spoke to Kristina Reports on the queue in one of the stations said “I have been in this queue for hours because I don’t want to buy black market. It is more expensive and I don’t trust their source”.
