It is the beginning of a new phase of possibilities at the Methodist Girls High School, Port Harcourt as a 13-member Board of Governors to direct the affairs of the legendary institution takes charge.
The new board which was inaugurated in Port Harcourt on Thursday, September 17, 2020, by the Archbishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, His Grace, The Most Rev. Dr. Sunday Agwu, has the President, Professor Hope Ilanye Bell-Gam, Vice President 1, Mrs. Angela Ohaka, and a member, Professor Blessing Ahiauzu, of the Government Girls Secondary School/Methodist Girls High School, Harbour Road Alumni Association as members of the newly inaugurated Board.
Dr Agwu, who was represented by the Bishop of D/Line Diocese, The Right Rev. Friday Jephthah, while inaugurating the board of the institution, said the membership was chosen based on competence and ability to steer the ship of the institution to greater heights.
Other members of the newly inaugurated board are Professor Awaji-Ogak Ujile; Chairman, Associate Professor Jack Nwinenwi; Vice Chairman, The Rev. Seleipre Okardi; Principal/Secretary, Mr. Monday Gbarakoro; Parents/Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman; Dr. Godswill Nathaniel; Barr. Obum Nwoye; Sis. Ethel Onyemaechi, Evang. Steve Ogamba, and Very Rev. Ini Attih, members.
The cleric pointed out that the work of God and nurturing of children was a serious job, hence the Diocese was meticulous in choosing the members, charging them to surpass the achievement of the previous Board as they would draw from their records and experiences in repositioning the school for greater glory.
The Most Rev. Dr Sunday Agwu commended the immediate past Board members for their dedication, noting that their steadfastness manifested in the elevation of the school to enviable height, while also commending the GGSS/MGHS Alumni for their efforts in ensuring that their Alma Mater moved forward.
Immediate past Chairman of the Board, Prof. Onyee Nwankpa opined that his administration did exceedingly well having met the school in decay on their assumption of office eight years ago, explaining that the task was not easy but God helped them in the task of turning the school to a center of excellence for the girl child.

Prof Nwankpa acknowledged the laudable contributions of the GGSS/MGHS Alumni to the growth of the school, hinting that the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the school in 2018 created a reawaking in the school and the society in general.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of the Board, Prof. Awaji-Ogak Ujile said his team was ready to take up the task ahead, adding that, with God, they will not relent in seeing to the progress of the school, adding that they were trusting God to empower them to surmount all obstacles in the way of making the school a place of excellence far beyond the South-South region, while soliciting for the cooperation of the out gone Board members in the affairs of the school.
Also speaking, the President of the Old Girls Association, Prof. Hope Ilanye Bell-Gam said their coming on board would help bridge the gap between the Alumni and the school, noting that being part of the Advisory Council will definitely afford them rapid access to information on challenges affecting the Alma Mater, and pledged to work closely with the MGHS Council to bring swift resolution to issues relating to the school.ki.,
