Against the backdrop of his running mate’s defection this morning, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Awara Biokpomabo has described his deputy’s as shameful.
Awara, in a phone chat with Kristina Reports, expressed displeasure with the move by his deputy, Akpo Bomba Yeeh, describing the latter’s defection as “a shame, a very big shame”.
Amidst rumours of being bribed to betray his party by top officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akpo Bomba Yeeh, the deputy governorship candidate of the AAC dumped his party for the PDP earlier today.
Unconfirmed reports have it that Yeeh was allegedly offered the sum of N200 million to leave the AAC and Awara.
In a letter he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, Yeeh said he resigned in the interest of the state, saying he wants to join the incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike to “move the state forward”.
His resignation has, however, been downplayed as having no effect on the outcome of the beleaguered governorship polls which has witnessed a stalemate.
Sources hinted Kristina Reports that a senator from Rivers South-East (names withheld) was instrumental to the negotiations that saw to the defection of the former AAC deputy governorship candidate.
The Ogoni born politician claimed in his letter that he was forced to sign an undated resignation letter by the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi which would become effective after his inauguration. The Minister was yet to respond to Kristina Reports enquiry on this allegation.
