The House of Assembly candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Bonny Constituency, Victor Oko-Jumbo says his aspiration to represent Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly come June 2023 was predicated on service and bond with his people.

Oko-Jumbo, who said this on Friday, January 13, 2023, during a stakeholder engagement meeting with Perekule Iwoama Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, asserted that sincerity of purpose and openness would be at the core of his engagement with his constituents when elected into office.

“I am here to serve Bonny people; and beyond service, I come here with sincerity of purpose, I come with an open heart. I am not here by mistake, I prepared myself for this journey. I am here by God’s grace; I am here because God has shown me mercy.”

The PDP Assembly hopeful informed that as a direct descendant of one of the ancestors of Jumbo Major House of Bonny Kingdom, Herbert Oko-Jumbo, he would always do the right thing, maintaining that this was the motivation behind his consultation drive across the 12 wards of Bonny LGA.

“I am a direct descendant of Herbert Oko-Jumbo; and if a direct descendant of Herbert Oko-Jumbo is coming to consult with the leader of this community and his, you can be sure that the right thing would be done.”

“I am going round the 12 wards to consult with the people and the reason why I am here in Perekule Iwoama Community is simple; it is one of the oldest and ancient communities.”

He averred that his campaign style is to connect with his would-be constituents and forge a bond of friendship that transcends the 2023 general elections, noting that he was poised to achieve a paradigm shift in how the electorates are engaged prior and beyond elections.

“I am here to invoke a long lost tradition in politics; that tradition in these modern times is dying away. Politicians no longer go to the people; the electorate do not know who is representing them.”

“The electorate do not have a bond that connects them to the politicians. The politicians do not protect the interest of the electorate; they are now making about the elites and creating class system in the society.”
