Learning New Skills Makes You More Employable – Groups tell Youths

Youths have been enjoined to focus on developing multiple skills in order to expand the scope of opportunities available to them and make them more self-reliant.

Director of Women Affairs in the Bonny Youths Federation (BYF), Favour Attoni gave this advice during the Graduation/ Certification Presentation Ceremony for graduands of a First Aid Training organized by the Bonny Youths Volunteers Council (BYVC) in partnership with her office on Thursday, March 6, 2021, in Bonny.

Attoni stated that taking advantage of opportunities for training in diverse skills was the way to go given that today’s world requires multi-skilled competences to thrive.

She pointed out that the first aid training was not only for workplace environments but for the home and anywhere else human activities take place, noting that accidents and other life threatening situations were not selective about locations.

The BYF Director of Women Affairs congratulated the participants of the training for their diligence and passionate commitment to grow their knowledge, encouraging them not to rest on their oars but strive for excellence in diverse areas of human endeavour.

Earlier, Director General of the Bonny Youths Volunteers Council (BVC), Emmanuel Jumbo had informed that the training was aimed at not only scaling up the capacity of the participants and afford them employability skills but also empower them to handle accident related incidents at home and wherever they find themselves.

He noted that human capital development was at the core of his organization’s corporate goals, pointing out that the BYVC would continue to partner and collaborate with key stakeholders to sustain its positive impact drive.

Jumbo, who is also the Youth Leader of Polokiri Community in Bonny LGA, praised the participants for their dedication to improve their competences by gaining new skills, stressing that the skills gained today would last through life.

He thanked the Bonny Youth Federation (BYF), especially, its Director of Women Affairs for her support, which he described as very strategic and encouraging, assuring her that the Bonny Youths Volunteers Council (BYVC) will sustain its partnership with her office to achieve greater impact among the youths of Bonny and beyond.

In her goodwill message, former Miss Bonny, Gift Banigo commended the organizers for contemplating such a richly rewarding programme, noting that programmes of this nature will positively impact the youths and increase their employability status.

She urged the participants to continue to seek knowledge by participating in trainings like this one and also reading widely to seek knowledge in diverse fields of human endeavour.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to the graduands by the Director of Women Affairs, BYF, Favour Attoni, Leader, Bonny Youths Volunteers Council, Emmanuel Jumbo and former Miss Bonny, Gift Banigo.
