The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu has declared that the Nigeria Police under him will not rest until the killers of late Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Oliver Inoma-Abbey are arrested and brought to justice.

The IGP, through the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba, promised to deploy all necessary resources to ensure his assailants are speedily made to face the full wrath of the law.

In an exclusive chat with Kristina Reports, Mba stated that “The Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of IGP M.A. Adamu, will not rest until the killers of ACP Oliver Inoma-Abbey and his colleague are found and brought to justice.”

On its part, the Nigerian Navy has called for restraint on the part of aggrieved relatives and kinsmen of the late ACP Inoma-Abbey, stressing that the various security agencies were working assiduously to fish out his killers and ensure they face justice.

Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, Commodore Kola Oguntuga told Kristina Reports that there was the need for restraint as no stone was being left unturned in resolving the situation and ensuring that his gruesome death was accounted by his killers.

Both the Police and Navy were reacting to threats by a self-acclaimed militant group, Bonny Freedom Fighters (BFF) to blow up oil facilities in the Niger Delta region and destabilize the oil and gas sector of the economy should the Federal Government not take definite steps to apprehend Inoma-Abbey’s killers and make them face the full wrath of the law.

ACP Oliver Inoma-Abbey was shot, killed and burnt alive alongside an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Joseph Akubo, by members of the proscribed terrorist group, the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), when, according to the Police, he went to intervene in an alleged attempted kidnap incident in Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Mba stressed that “You certainly cannot murder a Police officer using such amount of violence, brutality and wickedness, and be allowed to escape from justice.”

Cdre Oguntuga stated that “Since the issue is already being addressed at the highest level, everyone needs to be patient and let us all wait for them to come up with a position on it. At our own level we will still continue to talk to the boys not to take the laws into their hands because if they bomb the oil facilities, who is going to lose?”

“That is not going to solve the problem. They should just exercise more patience if they (IGP) have taken it up at that level? Let them just give more time for the strategic masters to come up with a position on it.”

Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command had earlier told Kristina Reports that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu had taken over the case and action was being expedited to ensure the suspected killers were brought to justice as quickly as possible.

Navy Commodore Oguntuga assured corporate organizations doing business in and around the Gulf of Guinea that the Navy was upfront about ensuring a safe and conducive environment for them to carry out their businesses.

He further allayed the fears of residents of Bonny LGA and its environs of any threats to their safety and security, promising that the security agencies in the area were ready to take necessary steps to forestall any attempts to disrupt the peace of the area.

“At our own level we will not cease, we will continue to make the environment conducive for the law abiding citizens. So, they should not use his (Inoma-Abbey) death to forestall the good things that are coming to the island. All hands are on deck to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Nobody is happy about it but two wrongs cannot make a right”.

An indigene of Bonny Kingdom, who preferred anonymity, was of the opinion that it was unthinkable that over a month after the incident, the Federal Government was yet to produce any concrete results with reagrds to the case.

“I may not necessarily agree with the method they (militants) have sworn to adopt, but I totally align myself with their angst. Pressure has to be brought to bear on the authorities to fish out the murderers.”

He expressed concern that the issue seems to have been swept under the carpet and the killers of late ACP Inoma-Abbey left at large.

“Right now, it seems everyone has moved on. Bonny has to sustain the pressure to bring the killers to justice. A Bonny man cannot be killed like a chicken. Our blood is not that cheap.”
