Inyoba-Ama Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has accused Winsko Services Limited of encroaching on their land, destroying their farmlands and economic trees.
The community called on President Bola Tinubu, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Chairman of Bonny LGA, Dame Anengi Claude-Wilcox to intervene and call the company to order to avert any security crisis in the area.
Winsko Services Limited, which is jointly owned by Patrick Ozigbu, Winifred Ozigbu and Kingsley Ozigbu, is registered on September 16, 2001 with Corporate Affairs Commission registration number RC 427875.
It is located at No. 1 Winsko Services Base, Elschon Close by Slaughter Bridge, Trans Woji Road, Port Harcourt Rivers State.
In a swift reaction, Winsko Services Limited vehemently denied any form of culpability, saying its equipment were hired by someone who is using them in the community.
Secretary of Inyoba-Ama Community, Saviour Pepple said when the community received information that earth moving equipment were destroying her cash crops, economic trees and ancestral land, they investigated and discovered that the equipment belonged to Winsko Services Limited.
“We got the information that a certain bulldozer is bulldozing our cash crops, economic trees and our ancestral land. This story is not palatable to us. So, we have to get to know what is going on and then getting there, we saw bulldozer from Winsko Services Limited.”
“The equipment is theirs and as I’m speaking the equipment is still there working. We are not happy about it; our lands are gone, economic trees are gone and everywhere is being destroyed. The farms, the cooperative farms are gone and our community is in fear.”
“This is where they generate their foods. This is where they make small money they use to sustain themselves and then they are living in fear because the security challenge is intimidating. What is happening is posing security threats to our Kingdom and we are not happy about it.”
He therefore called on the President and Rivers State Governor, amongst others to intervene in the matter to restore peace in the area.
“We’ve written to the Local Government Chairman. We are calling on well-meaning Nigerians to intervene in this matter. We are calling on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to intervene in this matter.
“We are also calling on His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara – Congratulations to him as he has won his election case – please this is the time to work. He should come to our rescue.”
When contacted, one of the Directors of Winsko Services Limited, Winifred Ozigbu denied any involvement by her company, saying that someone hired the equipment but declined naming the client she claimed hired the equipment.
It remains to be seen what interventions the federal, state and local governments would deploy to restore peace in the area. This expectation is bolstered by the fact that the Inyoba-Ama, Ererekiri and Otobie axis of Bonny LGA has been troubled by violent incursions by hoodlums from the adjoining LGAs.
