Only three out of the ten federal lawmakers from Akwa Ibom State have so far distributed the N100m worth of rice as palliative released by the Federal Government to members of the National Assembly.
The three Lawmakers are Unyime Idem, representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, representing Ikono/INI Federal Constituency and Patrick Umoh, representing Ikot Ekpene/ Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency.
In a reaction to this development, a rights group, Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN) has vowed to name and shame federal lawmakers who have collected the Federal Government palliatives but are yet to disburse same to their constituents in the State.
In a press release signed by the Director and Secretary of CHRAN, Franklyn Isong, and Christopher Ekpo, respectively, and made available to newsmen in Uyo, the rights group insisted that N100million worth of palliatives have been released by the Federal Government and received by the lawmakers who are yet to share same to the people.
CHRAN further stated that it was sanguine that the President Tinubu palliatives had been received by all the National Assembly members on behalf of their constituents, and so urged them to distribute same to their constituents without further delay.
CHRAN maintained that it has been reliably informed that N200 million worth of rice was given to Senators as palliatives for their constituents while N100 million worth of rice was given to members of the House of Representatives as palliatives for constituents.
“CHRAN will soon organise a Press Conference to name and shame the National Assembly members who have not distributed the palliatives to their constituents” the release added.
It could be recalled that in January 2024 Unyime Idem had distributed trucks of rice to Constituents while Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo and Patrick Umoh have followed suit even after celebrating Christmas with their respective constituents.
