Fubara Reaffirms Support for Security Agencies, Says Rivers Remains Peaceful

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the state, assuring them of the assistance needed to effectively carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

Speaking on Monday July 6, 2026 at the grand finale of the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026, at the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt, the Governor pledged that his government would continue to provide the logistics, infrastructure and institutional support required to strengthen security operations across the state.

Fubara stressed that the success of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies is directly linked to the success of government.

He noted that his administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment for them to perform their duties effectively.

The governor commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism, operational readiness, technological advancement, and manpower development, as demonstrated through the military drills and ceremonial parade during the celebration.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for providing the leadership and support necessary for the military to effectively defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Governor Fubara said the decision to host this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt reflects the prevailing peace and stability in Rivers State.

He pointed out that this, contrary to what he described as false narratives and sponsored misinformation about the state’s security situation.

“The choice of Port Harcourt as host of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 means a lot to me as the Governor and to the good people of Rivers State. It signifies peace.”

“It signifies normalcy in our state, as against the numerous negative things we read in the newspapers and the ones we see on social media, some of which are being sponsored to malign the state and my person,” he said.

While commending the military’s efforts, the governor appealed to the Federal Government and the military high command to prioritise the welfare of officers and soldiers.

He stressed that improved welfare is essential to sustaining high morale and enhancing operational effectiveness.
