Women have been charged to challenge male dominated economic paradigms by upscaling their deliverables in the world of work and in the entrepreneurial space.
Woman Leader of Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State, Nigeria, Amaopuorubo Helen Jack-Wilson Pepple gave this charge on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at a Three-Day Skills Acquisition Programme for Women in Bonny, Rivers State.
She emphasized that for women to assert themselves and remain relevant in a male dominated and highly competitive world of work and business environment they need to acquire relevant skills and embrace entrepreneurship principles.
“You will agree with me that white collar jobs are no longer common. Even those that have it cannot boast of job security like it used to be. This is made worse by the fact that we live in a male dominant society where a woman has to be extra-qualified, connected and pushy to be able to get a job.”
“This is why the only sure way that women can be rescued from this seeming economic disadvantage in our present day society is to be skillful, business inclined and dogged.”
She pointed that this understanding of the debilitating challenges women are facing was the prompter for the Bonny Women Forum to contrive the skills acquisition training to enhance the capacity of women in the area, stressing the need for the participants to take advantage of the opportunity.
“It is as a result of this reality that the Bonny Women Forum resolved to come all out in support of women at the grassroots through this skill acquisition programme towards improving their economic fortunes.”
“The training will cut across endeavours that are in daily demand such as makeup, tying of gele, skin care, pastries, knotting of Akpara, and so forth
The Bonny Kingdom Woman Leader informed that there was a follow-through mechanism to the program, maintaining that beyond the training, starter packs would be provided for the participants as well as utilization of linkages with stakeholders to provide off taking avenues for them.
“We are delighted to inform trainees that there will be no form of abandonment after the exercise, as we would provide starter packs where we can, and collaborate with stakeholders for the assistance of others.”
“It is important I point out that this exercise is costing us alot to put up and the only way we can be fulfilled is if participants take it seriously. I am hopeful that you all make us proud.”
In attendance at the programme which had women from all 35 chieftaincy houses of Bonny Kingdom were the BWF Deputy Leader, Dabota Jumbo, Secretary, Lily Hart, and other executives, as well as invited guests.
