Gbene Yamaabana Dynasty Insists Kue Oil Field Lies in Nyobe Bangha, Backs NEPL Verification Findings

The Gbene Yamaabana Dynasty of Nyobe Bangha in Bangha Ancient Kingdom, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State has reaffirmed its position that the Kue Yamaabana Oil Field is located within its community, aligning with findings from the recent physical asset verification visit by the Nigeria Exploration Production Limited (NEPL).

In a statement signed by Legborsi Yamaabana on behalf of the dynasty, the group clarified its stance following claims attributed to Edo Keniabarido, noting that although it would not ordinarily respond, it became necessary to set the record straight and ensure accurate public understanding.

The dynasty emphasized that Nyobe Bangha is an autonomous community, separate from Nyokuru Community, despite both being part of the larger Nyokhana Kingdom, adding that each community has clearly defined geographical boundaries and natural resources.

According to the statement, the Kue Yamaabana Oil Field is exclusively situated within Nyobe Bangha, just as the Nyokuru Gas Well belongs to Nyokuru Community, stressing that both assets are distinct and geographically separate.

It further revealed that coordinates captured during the NEPL technical team’s verification visit Latitude 4.717516° and Longitude 7.465279° identify the oil facility’s location in Bargha, Rivers State, confirming it falls within Nyobe Bangha territory.

The dynasty also dismissed references to any asset known as “Nyokuru 1 & 2” in relation to the oil field, stating that no such designation exists for the facility in dispute.

Reinforcing its claim, the group noted that ownership of the Nyobe Bangha Oil Field has already been settled through a subsisting court judgment affirming the asset as belonging solely to the community.

While acknowledging the right of individuals to express opinions, the statement questioned the clarity and relevance of the issues raised by Edo Keniabarido, adding that there was no indication of formal involvement of his family in the matter under discussion.

The Gbene Yamaabana Dynasty called on stakeholders to rely on verified facts, documented evidence, and established records as conversations continue around the safe resumption of oil and gas operations in Ogoniland.

It also reiterated its commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect among neighbouring communities, and constructive engagement with government agencies, industry players, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable development and stability in the region.
