A socio-political group, the G-30 Ibani Voice has lauded Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on his re-election for a second term in office at the just concluded March 9, 2019 gubernatorial polls in the state.
The group equally urged the Governor to respect the pact he made with stakeholders in the State to shift power to the riverine areas.
Founder and President of the group, Dr Fubara Dan-Jumbo, in a chat with Kristina Reports in Port Harcourt today shortly after the Governor was declared the winner of the polls by the returning officer for the election, Professor Teddy Adias, congratulated him, saying “his victory was well deserved”.
Wike, who was candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 886,264 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Awara Biokpomabo, who polled 173,859 votes.
Dan-Jumbo noted that Wike’s achievements during his first tenure endeared him to the hearts of Rivers people thus ensuring he won at the polls.
He, therefore, called on the State Governor to scale up his performance in his second tenure and ensure the people of the state enjoyed greater dividends of democracy.
“The Governor has performed and everyone can see that and that was why the people came out in their numbers to vote for him. There is no way any other candidate could have defeated Wike on the field.”
The G-30 Ibani Voice leader, who was a former senior lecturer at Coventry University, stated that it was imperative that “Governor Nyesom Wike keeps to the pact he has with stakeholders ahead of the elections to shift power to the riverine axis of the state which has been denied the opportunity of producing a Governor for over 20 years”.
“He has to give them a sense of belonging and ensure they have their day at the seat of power. Since the short-lived tenure of Chief Rufus Ada George, the riverine areas have yet to produce a Governor for the state and this is unfair. Now that he has been re-elected let him ensure that the agreement that made the riverine communities to support him is fulfilled”.
