In a bid to mitigate the impact of economic challenges being witnessed in Nigeria, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated palliatives to residents of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Chairman of the Emohua LGA, Dr Chidi Lloyd disclosed this on Monday, July 3, 2023 during a meeting with political stakeholders in the area after which he coordinated the distribution of the food stuffs to the people of the area.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bright Jossy-Elendu, the Emohua LGA chief executive said the provision of the food palliatives was part of the agency’s intervention programme aimed at cushioning the harsh effects of the nation’s economy at the moment.
Observing that no amount of food palliative can be enough for the people, Dr Lloyd maintained that equitable distribution of the palliatives would go a long way in reducing the effect of the economic challenges on the people.
The food items include rice, beans, indomie noodles, garri and vegetable oil.
He also harped on the need for stakeholders and community leaders to ensure regular cleaning of waterways and drainages in their respective communities, stressing that these have been identified as mitigation strategies for the imminent 2023 flood as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Emohua LGA, Uche Minikwu, and Leader of Emohua Legislative Assembly, Love Nyenke joined the LG Council Chairman to handover the food palliatives to Councillors, Liaison Officers and Ward Chairmen for onward distribution to their respective wards.
