FIFA Women’s World Cup: Super Falcons in make-or-mar encounter with hosts, France

As the 2019 FIFA Women World Cup enters elimination stage, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are not leaving any stone unturned tonight as they face hosts, France to secure the much needed points to advance to the next round.

The team were defeated in their first match against Norway but upturned the table in their second group match against South Korea, beating them 2-0.

The Super Falcons would b are hoping for a draw from France and pray South Korea beat Norway in the other group match.

Kristina Reports learnt that the players have been on series of intensive trainings ahead of today’s encounter.

The team’s midfielder, Rita Chikwelu said, affirms that the match is not going to be an easy game and everybody knows but their coming out to prove a point.

“In the midfield it will be more physical game. We know their midfielders likewise they know us.

“And we are not going to give them any space to operate in the midfielder.

“We are 100% confident we can do it against France.”

The team’s Head Coach, Thomas Dennerby identified areas where the girls need to improve on.

He said, We need to have our own plan for attacking game because if you score there’s a big chance to have a point from the game.

“There’s a few things we saw that we think it is important and that is what we tried to do in training today.

“To secure a spot in the round of 16, I guess we need to take one point from possible three, but we have to go for points of course.

“Our tactical plan is to go for it, don’t just defend because if you defend, defend there’s a big chance they can score us in the end”.

The match, which kicked off at 8pm Nigerian time at Stade de la Route de Lorient, so far, stands at a goalless draw 40 minutes into the match.
