FG Declares Wednesday, Thursday Public Holidays for Eid ul Adha

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of Eid ul Adha.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Monday May 25, 2026 in Abuja and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration underscores the government’s recognition of the religious significance of the festival for millions of Nigerian Muslims, as they join others worldwide in observing the occasion.

Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s greetings to Muslim faithful both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, noting that Eid ul Adha symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.

The government also called on Nigerians to take advantage of the period to pray and reflect, seeking divine direction for the nation’s continued pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity.

“It is in the spirit of unity, brotherhood, and shared humanity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, joyful, and blessed celebration,” the statement added.
