A member of the House of Representatives representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency, Ephraim Nwuzi has been remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on charges of treasonable felony, conspiracy and inciting violence.

Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna remanded Nwuzi till Friday, March 3, 2023 on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 based on the allegations preferred against him after listening to arguments by counsels for the Rivers State Police Command and the accused.

The Rivers State Police Command accused the federal lawmaker, who is also the APC candidate for Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the Saturday, February 25 election, of treasonable felony, conspiracy, and inciting violence.

When the matter was mentioned in court, counsel to the accused, Emenike Ebete, made an oral application for bail following the nature of the case.

The prosecution and the Investigation Police Officers in charge of the matter, who requested that the accused be remanded to make way for proper investigation and arraignment, opposed the application for bail.

Recall that the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, had earlier announced that the Supervising Assistant Inspector General of Police, Abutu Yaro, had invited Nwuzi over an inciting video where he was seen directing his supporters to kill three INEC Electoral Officers during the elections.

Reacting to the development, spokesman of the APC in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju condemned the arrest of Ephraim Nwuzi and other APC members in the State, describing the arrest as “unlawful, intimidation and politically motivated”.
