In a bid to alleviate economic strain on citizens, the Federal Government has initiated the sale of 30,000 metric tons of milled rice at a subsidized rate of ₦40,000 per 50kg bag.

Spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this effort targets civil servants and other Nigerians grappling with financial challenges.

The initiative follows previous interventions, including the release of 42,000 metric tons of assorted food items to vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, underscored the importance of this intervention amidst global disruptions in food supply chains affecting Nigeria.

“This food intervention is timely, given the current economic challenges facing the country,” remarked Senator Kyari, emphasizing President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing food security nationwide.

To ensure transparency and fair distribution, buyers are required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and phone numbers during purchase.

The Ministry’s Director of Food and Strategic Reserve, Haruna Abutu, detailed the streamlined process, highlighting that payments will be electronic, and receipts will specify collection points to prevent overcrowding.

“We aim to uphold every Nigerian’s right to food,” Abutu affirmed, announcing plans for multiple sales points across the nation to facilitate efficient distribution.

This initiative marks a significant step towards alleviating food insecurity and supporting economic resilience across Nigeria.
