The family of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, has firmly rejected any plans to commemorate the first anniversary of his death. In a powerful statement released by their lawyer, Monisola Odumosu, they expressed their desire to avoid any public events or celebrations that could intrude on their mourning process.
“It has come to the attention of the Aloba family that some organisations have been planning to celebrate the first anniversary of the death of our late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad). The Aloba family wishes to appeal to such interest groups to suspend such ideas,” the statement reads.
The family emphasizes that they are still deeply affected by Mohbad’s loss and are not interested in reopening the painful wounds left by his death. They are concerned about people exploiting his legacy for commercial gain and want to maintain their privacy during this difficult time.
“It is no longer news that some individuals and organisations have been planning to carry out events to commemorate the late singer’s death,” the statement continues. “We will appeal to such persons and organisations to seek proper approval from the family before going on with such plans. The Aloba family would not wish the goodwill of their illustrious son to be employed for commercial purposes.”
The Aloba family’s request highlights their need for peace and respect as they continue to navigate their grief.
