Djokovic’s rival, Rafael Nadal, might not be in this year’s French Open but his reincarnation, Carlos Alcaraz, so to speak is very much present.

Carlos Alcaraz got an easy win against Stefanos Tsitsipas on Tuesday, to set up a semifinal clash with Novak Djokovic, who is looking to set a record-breaking 23rd men’s Grand Slam singles title.

The world number one, Carlos Alcaraz is unbeaten in his last 12 matches at the Grand Slam level. His last loss came against Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon’22

World number three, Novak Djokovic has a 19-match winning streak at the Grand Slam level. His last loss was against Rafael Nadal at last year’s Roland Garros.

Alcaraz said:

“I’m really looking forward to play Djokovic and won’t stop to think about that in the next few days”

 Neither would we Carlitos

Alcaraz is the youngest player to reach the French Open semifinals since his next opponent, Djokovic did it in 2007.

This tie is an intersection of generations. Novak Djokovic would go into it with greater experience, while Alcaraz brings in Youth.

Novak Djokovic on Alcaraz:” He carries himself very well, nice guy. Brings a lot of intensity to the court, reminds me of someone from his country (laughing). We played only once, 7-6 in the third for him… If it comes to it, that would be the biggest challenge, he is the guy to beat.”

Alcaraz on Djokovic: “This match everyone wants to watch. I would say it’s going to be a really good match to play and to watch. I really wanted to play this match. If you want to be the best you have to beat the best.”

Alcaraz and Djokovic have played each other just once before in Madrid with Alcaraz winning it. The pair have never met in a grand slam.

What is at stake according to the ATP, asides the obvious Final spot?

The match could decide who leaves Paris as World No. 1 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.

If Alcaraz defeats Djokovic, he will guarantee his standing as World No. 1 on the 12th of June. If Djokovic wins, he will be one win from a record-setting 23rd major title and a return to World No. 1 next Monday.

Alcaraz and Djokovic would lock horns on Friday at the Court Philippe-Chatrier.
