The Environmental CDS Group of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has emerged winners of the Inter-CDS Volleyball Tournament in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The winners trashed their closest rivals, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) CDS Group with 25 points against 21 to emerge winners.
The competition, which held between April 16 to 22, 2023, had its Finals on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Volleyball Court of the Government Girls Secondary School, Finima, Bonny.
It was organized by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bonny LGA and RickyCon Ventures Limited.
Presenting a trophy to the winners, Unit Commander of the FRSC, Joseph Ogar congratulated the Environmental Group for their performance, commending the first runners-up, NDLEA CDS Group, and the Reproductive Health and NAFDAC CDS Groups for their sportsmanship.
Represented by the Unit Head of Operations, James Udo, who is also the Chief Route Commander (CRC), the FRSC Unit Commander harped on the need for the various community development service groups and all corps members in the LGA bonding together with a view to delivering on social impact projects and initiatives.
Udo was accompanied by the Deputy Route Commander, Chris Onwubiko, who is also the Unit Head, Special Duties and External Relations, and the Cadet-in-Chief, NYSC Road Safety Club, Dorcas Ataisi, amongst other officers.
Publisher/Chief Executive Officer of Kristina Reports, Godswill Jumbo presented the 2nd place trophy to Collins Bakare, captain of the NDLEA CDS Group.
Speaking, captain of the Environmental CDS Group, John Rawlings expressed happiness over winning the tournament, noting that “this is a competition set up by the Federal Road Safety Corps in order to bring the corpers together”.
“We thank God we emerged the winner of the volleyball competition. We say all thanks to the road safety, all thanks to the whole bodies that worked to bring the corpers together. I also thank my fellow players.”
On his part, captain of the NDLEA CDS Group, Collins Bakare said “I am happy we came second, we didn’t lose,’ thanking the organizers, sponsors and participants for the success of the competition, adding “I thank everyone that made this happen and came out for this competition”.
