The #EndBadGovernance protest slated for August 1 to 10, 2024 in the thirty-six states of the country has begun and has met different reactions from different individuals and groups.
On the first day of the protest in Abuja, protesters were restricted by the court to the confines of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium as this would enable the security operatives to take charge of the situation properly, this was to prevent the protest from getting out of hand.
Some of the protesters agreed and proceeded to hold their protest within the stadium but others insisted on taking to the streets, insisting that the government should not allocate them spots for the protests as they did not pay attention to the masses while they suffered.
In an interview with Kristina Reports on August 1, 2024 outside the Mooshood Abiola Stadium, a protester, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, expressed anger at the government and leaders, stating that the citizens have complained about the standard of living for months now and nothing has changed.
“I am very annoyed that the government is trying to dictate how we protest. We have been complaining since, there has been no change.”
“This protest had been announced for over a week now, yet nobody from the government has said anything and they want to tell us where and how to protest? No! We will protest in the streets!”
The protest, which also took place in Lugbe, Dutse, Asokoro and other parts of the FCT, had the protesters march very far distances like Kubwa to Central Area to show dedication and portray the seriousness of the cause being fought for which is bringing an end to bad governance.
However, the protest in Lugbe turned violent at about 7pm with tyres being burnt and cars vandalized.
Kristina Reports observed upon arriving the scene of the incidence, that people were fleeing the scene due to highhandedness of the security operatives.
While some areas of Abuja witnessed peaceful protests, other areas experienced tints of violence that led protesters and by standers to take to their heels.
It is important to note however that areas such as Apo and Lokogoma experience relative calm as no form of protests happened in these areas.
