As societal expectations assail the girlchild, the need to empower her with relevant skills and information to function optimally in today’s world has been highlighted as the National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS) hosts students and schools leavers to a seminar.

General Secretary of NUBS, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) Chapter, Favour Pepple told Kristina Reports on Friday, December 16, 2022 in an online interview that this would be the key focus of advocacy at an upcoming One Day Seminar in Bonny.

Stressing on the critical focus of the programme, the event co-host stated that “It is important for relevant stakeholders, especially, society’s gatekeepers to know and understand that educating the girl-child presents her with the necessary skills and information to improve her capabilities and thus serve as a catalyst for sustainable development”.

She expressed optimism that the seminar would serve to awaken the consciousness of the students, especially, the girls to the relevant information and skills they require to engage life and succeed at it.

“Also, we pray that with all the facts we have to give to them, the Lord will help them to listen and also discipline their selves to know that they are important in the society.”

She appealed to parents and guardians to avail their children and wards the opportunity to be part of this seminar, while calling on other stakeholders such as the Bonny LGA Chairman, Bonny Traditional Institution, multinationals and other entities on the island to support NUBS in its quest to create awareness and sensitize young people on the need to not only prepare for life but also succeed at it.
