Women have been charged to embrace leadership principles and make a stake at leading their country with a view to emplacing structures that empower their fellow women to succeed.
Director General of the Bonny Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BOCCIMA), Mrs. Constance Nwokejiobi gave this charge at the Global Voices of Impact (GVI) Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, recently.
The event had in attendance women drawn from different professions and speakers who x-rayed current trends in leadership and delivered talks on professional skills and related areas.
Mrs. Nwokejiobi, who led participants through a session on Ethical Leadership, explained that embracing leadership principles as women was necessary as it would accentuate their abilities to contribute to their country’s leadership.
While unveiling the group, the BOCCIMA DG described it as “a community of women with the aim of creating impact and encouraging women in their chosen professions through access to opportunities provided by the international community”.
She enumerated the goals of the group to include; creation of investment platforms for women, coaching women on how to give a sustainable economic plan to their children and teaching women how to get things done using the professionals within their fold.
According to her, “if all the women in this group buy from the garri seller among us, we will be able to empower her. If we all patronize a clinic owned by one of us, we will also be able to empower her, that’s how we can all empower ourselves”.
She expatiating on finance for entrepreneurs, responsibilities of financial managers, day-to-day business operations, financial activities and how to estimate capital requirements.
In separate interviews, women from different professions including Medicine, Law, Accounting, Civil Service and Entrepreneurs poured encomiums on the host of the event, Mrs. Eunice Thomas for gathering them together for such a refresher training.
Mrs. Eunice Thomas, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), was a former Commissioner of Education and later Women Affairs in Akwa Ibom State.
Other erudite speakers who featured during the Global Voices of Impact (GVI) Conference drawn from different walks of life include Mrs. Nwamaka Udenigwe, Deborah Ajaraogu and Donna Akparawa.
