In a very cold and mean message, a Supervisor in Candix Engineering Nigeria Limited, Monday Oritsesholuwa Ojobon has threatened the Publisher of Kristina Reports, a Port Harcourt-based media organization, Godswill Jumbo, that Bonny Kingdom cannot save him from what is coming.
Godswill Jumbo hails from Orupiri Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In a chat on the WhatsApp messaging application, Ojobon minced no words in asserting that the said publisher has nowhere to hide, adding that it would be a long drawn experience for him.
“You cannot hide under this. You cannot hide under your community. This might be a long journey.”
This is coming about a week after he threatened a team of journalists from Kristina Reports who met with him on his invitation to crosscheck allegations by some of his colleagues who accused him of extorting, intimidating and harassing them.
When Kristina Reports contacted him over the allegations, Ojobon asked for a meet up at a drinking joint along New Layout Road, Bonny where the team met him with another man who appears to be his colleague as they both wore same coveralls.
In the course of giving the team directions to where the should meet him, the Candix Supervisor continued making threats over the telephone that the journalist should not go and write what will put them in trouble.
Upon meeting him and after identifying themselves, the Kristina Reports team explained to him that they came to hear his side of the story as some persons claiming to be his colleagues granted interviews accusing him of extorting and intimidating them.
He replied that he does not talk to bloggers, online media and others except professional journalists.
When the team explained to him that they were indeed journalists and not bloggers and that Kristina Reports is a chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ojobon flared up without any justifiable reason.
He ordered the team to leave his presence immediately or face his wrath, warning them as they left quietly that they should not write anything against him else they would be on the run for their safety.
Days after the news was published, Ojobon chatted up the Publisher of Kristina Reports warning him not to take sides with his kinsmen, apparently his accusers were indigenes of Bonny just as the said Publisher.
“Don’t take side with your brothers, that is where you get it wrong.”
Recall that Ojobon was recently accused by some of his colleagues at Candix Engineering Nigeria Limited of making threats of bodily harm to them.
Some of them visited Kristina Reports office in Bonny, Rivers State where they granted interviews, tendering supporting documents to substantiate their claims of being extorted by Ojobon for over a long period of time.
It was after the interviews that Kristina Reports dispatched a team comprising three journalists to locate and engage Ojobon over the sordid allegations for fairness and balance incumbent upon the ethics of the Journalism profession that requires all sides to be heard.
Checks by Kristina Reports reveal that Ojobon’s company, Candix Engineering Nigeria Limited is a contractor to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) on the latter’s Train 7 project.
It was unclear as at press time what efforts the company had made to probe the sordid allegations against Monday Ojobon, though unconfirmed sources told Kristina Reports that he seems to be too important to the company to be probed let alone being sanctioned regardless of what he does.
A former staff of the company, who preferred anonymity, hinted Kristina Reports that “if he threatened you guys, you better run for your safety because Candix management would not do anything about him”.
“He is that integral to their operations. Ordinarily, will anybody in their right mind go threatening and almost assaulting a journalist? But this is to show you how emboldened he is. Back then when I was there, we fear him like he is a deity. You piss him off, you face the music.”
“Also, the company, Candix is a key contractor to NLNG. So it doesn’t matter what happens there, I don’t know but I don’t see any senior official of the NLNG that would go and ask Candix questions.”
