A former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Otuekong Akpan says the illegal and indiscriminate adjustments of petrol pump by petroleum marketers in the State is uncalled for and unacceptable.
In an open letter to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, which was made available to the Media, the former lawmaker decried a situation where petroleum marketers in the State adjust their pumps in filling stations, revealing that motorists are now forced to pay for half or three quarter liter of petrol, kerosene and diesel for one litre.
Akpan, a former Sales Executive Officer of National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company (NOLCHEM), described such act as daylight robbery and high class corruption which must stop.
“The fraudulent exploitation is uncalled for, unacceptable and must be stopped forthwith by your government.
“It is only in Akwa Ibom state that we do not have stable prices of petroleum products as marketers fix their prices variously with impunity and disregard to laws of the land mainly to cheat the public and become super rich. Whereas this is not so in the neighbouring states like Cross River, Imo and Rivers to mention but a few.
“Having been quiet for too long, hoping that petroleum marketers would have conscience to sell the correct/actual measurement of petroleum products of one liter instead of half a liter and collect money for one liter.
“I feel compelled to call on you and plead that you urgently set up a taskforce to go round and monitor filling stations in the state and stop petroleum marketers from exploitation of motorists through petrol pump adjustments.
“The Task Force must be constituted with men /women of honesty and integrity, with experience in petroleum matters and Petrol Filling station operations.”
