As the news of the bill seeking an upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny to a federal university sponsored by the lawmaker representing Degema/Bonny federal constituency, Randolph Iwo Oruene Brown hit the news waves yesterday, a former security chief has hailed the move.
Larry Pepple, a former Chief Security Officer to ex-Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, applauded the move by the revered lawmaker, popularly referred to as the Amadabo of the Green Chambers by his kith and kin, saying that Brown will be remembered for his good works and history will judge right.
Describing the Degema/Bonny representative as a true and distinguished titled citizen of Bonny Kingdom, Pepple noted that sponsoring the bill, which was presented on the floor of the Green chambers on Thursday, May 16, 2019, was a demonstration on gallantry in the pursuit of the public interest and community wellbeing.
The former Technical Assistant on Reintegration to the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Head of the Reintegration Department of the Presidential Amnesty Programme pointed out that as Brown takes an honourable exit at the end of the 9th Assembly he will be remembered for undoubtable legacies he left behind.
According to Hon. Randolph Brown, the Bill seeking an upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny to a university, when passed into law, would reduce the number of prospective undergraduates across the Niger Delta region and Nigeria, in general.
He explained that the main thrust of the bill was to achieve global standards where polytechnics were being upgraded to universities to bridge the gap in science, engineering and technological training in the country and harmonize standards of tertiary education.
Additionally, Brown said when upgraded and functional, the proposed university will provide the much-needed space for post-graduate studies, which no polytechnic currently provides.
He further disclosed that as currently placed, Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny possesses the requisite manpower and facilities to take off as a full-fledged Federal University of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
Kristina Reports checks revealed that expectations were high already that this bill, when passed into law would spur greater socio-economic development, provide a veritable platform for the teeming populace and youths within the catchment area to improve their academic pursuits, and expanded the horizon of opportunities and realization of aspirations that had hitherto eluded the people of the area.
