An aspirant for the Degema/Bonny federal constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adonye Dappa Wilcox has expressed concern that though multifaceted economic activities in the oil and gas sector were thriving in Degema and Bonny communities there were no commensurate positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of the people.
Worse still, according to him, was that no one was advocating strongly for the people to benefit from the wealth inherent in their land.
Consequently, he said in response to the overwhelming clamour by his people and teeming supporters across Degema and Bonny local government areas to go and represent them in the House of Representatives he was out to contest for the position.
Wilcox, a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, announced his decision to vie for the Degema/Bonny federal constituency seat at a meeting of the leadership caucus of the APC in Bonny LGA on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
He thanked the party leadership for according him audience to intimate them of his ambition, pointing out that their support and the party structure were critical to the realization of his aspiration.
He appealed for their support as critical stakeholders in the quest to enthrone progressive leadership at every level of governance in the country, assuring them that he would not disappoint them or the good people of Degema and Bonny local government areas.
Responding, a former Commissioner for Transport in the State and leader of the APC in Bonny LGA, George Tolofari thanked Adonye Dappa Wilcox for venturing into the race for the House of Representatives seat, noting that it was good for democracy.
He advised him to continue his consultations with various stakeholders, interest groups and his constituents to galvanize support for his ambition and also for the forthcoming primaries of the party.
Also adding their words of advice to the aspirant, former Caretaker Committee Chairmen of Bonny, Frederick Tolofari, and Adonye Harold Wilcox, and a former Secretary to the Bonny Local Government Council, Maxwell Akwe, urged the various aspirants to focus on the interest of the people and strategies on how the party can win the election.
Present at the meeting were the Chairman of APC in Bonny LGA, Israel Pepple, his deputy, Edward Hart, a former member of the State House of Assembly, Aye Pepple, and a former CTC Chairman of Bonny LGA and House of Assembly aspirant, Henry Halliday.
Others were the Deputy National President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Telema Pollyn, Deputy Chairman of Adonye Dappa Wilcox Campaign Organisation, Sunju Bluejack, Secretary of the APC in Bonny LGA, Benson Pepple, amongst others.
