Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced plans to donate ₦300 million to charity to mark his 32nd birthday on November 21, 2024.
The Afrobeats icon revealed this in a post on X, saying, “Once again my birthday this year, we donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse & addiction.”
“This year is N300m.”
” Details to follow soon ❤️.”
This marks the fourth publicised donation by the Grammy-nominated artist, who has become known for his generosity.
In November 2021, Davido celebrated his 29th birthday by giving ₦250 million to 292 orphanages across Nigeria.
In July 2023, the “Awuke” hitmaker donated ₦237 million to over 400 orphanages, and in February 2024, he pledged another ₦300 million through his David Adeleke Foundation, stating, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the Nation ❤️ … details of disbursement tomorrow.”
This year’s donation will also support a charity focused on combating drug abuse, a cause Davido has not publicly championed until now.
However, his past was marred by controversy when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) criticized him in 2015 for featuring hard drugs in the music video for his song “Fans Mi,” featuring Meek Mill.
Davido’s consistent philanthropy continues to set a remarkable example in the Nigerian music industry, reinforcing his commitment to making a difference in the lives of the less privileged.
