In a bid to ensure that school children in his domain are not left behind, Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Solomon Eke has kicked off a holiday tutorials programme for secondary school students in the area.
Eke stated while kick-starting the programme at Rumuodomaya, the LG headquarters, that it was aimed at “checkmating the students from backsliding in the efforts they have so far made in their academic progress to excel in their various levels of examinations”.
According to a statement signed by the Information Officer of the Local Government Council, Ogeann Victor, beneficiaries of this laudable project were drawn from public secondary schools in the LGA numbering about six hundred students.
The Obio/Akpor LG boss admonished the students “not to fret in difficult circumstance but remember to keep an even mind, with requisite determination, assiduity, self-confidence and industry, the dizzy heights of academic fame, noting that “academics can no longer be reserved for a select few”.
He further explained that the programme was an innovative idea to train children in various educational aspects with a view to breeding community impact initiatives that will ensure that the area develops.
Assuring that despite the downturn in the economic fortunes of the third tier of government occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic, Eke stated that his administration would continue to ensure that education related matters are not downplayed.
The statement further revealed that it was in line with his unrelenting quest towards boosting the educational sector in the area that his administration embarked on building of additional infrastructure at Community Secondary School, Rumuodumanya, and most recently, the distribution of classroom desks to schools in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Further to this, the Solomon Eke introduced the Obio/Akpor Free Online Coursera Certification Training programme, which was being run by the Obio/Akpor Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, which has witnessed over one thousand participants. The graduands of this initiative would have additional certifications and skills to boost their professional careers.
