Coalition Commends Eleme CTC Chair on Appointment, Assures of Partnership During LGA Polls

Following the release of guidelines and timetable for local government elections in Rivers State by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), some stakeholders in the political space have expressed readiness to participate in a free, fair and credible election devoid of all forms of insecurity.

This position and many more were the upshot of a congratulatory visit to the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Brain Gokpa by a coalition of chairmen of registered political parties in Eleme LGA, recently.

The coalition, a microcosm of the Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Rivers State, congratulated Gokpa on his appointment, assuring him of the needed support to entrench peace and security in Eleme, especially, during the forthcoming local government elections.

The coalition also extolled Governor Fubara’s statesmanship and inclusive governance posture of appointing members of opposition political parties into caretaker committees for the 23 LGA.

They noted that this has led to the emergence of one of its members, Emmanuel Osarokio of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as Supervisor for Works and Housing in Eleme LGA.

They noted that through this appointments, opposition political parties have been given a sense of inclusion through participatory governance, calling on those still stoking the embers of disaffection to sheathe their sword and key into the inclusivity drive of the Fubara led administration.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) and a contestant for the Eleme Constituency seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly during the 2023 general elections, Olaka Olaka stated that the unity established among political parties under the coalition has made peace a walkover especially during the forthcoming LGA Polls.

On his part, Chairman of Accord Party in Eleme LGA, Emmanuel Nwafor commended the CTC Chairman for his efforts in managing the waste disposal crisis in Eleme LGA.

He appealed to him to extend same goodwill to Ebubu people by ordering the evacuation of the waste at the popular Tuesday Market that has blocked one entrance into Community Secondary School, Ebubu.

Receiving the coalition, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Eleme LGA, Brain Gokpa expressed his appreciation to the coalition and its parent body at the state level, the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) for the support given to the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara led administration.

He emphasized that the role of political parties in promoting peace is critical, encouraging the coalition to continue in their support for the Fubara led administration, assuring them of his administration’s determination to reciprocate this support at the local government level.

Other members of the coalition in attendance include Chairmen of the Social Democratic Party SDP, National Rescue Movement NRM, Accord, Zenith Labour party ZLM, Labour party LP, Youth Party YP, Peoples Redemption Party PRP, Action Democratic Party ADP, Action Alliance AA, New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP and the African Action Congress AAC.
