Britain’s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, Elizabeth II has passed on to the great beyond after 70 years on the throne.
Born on Wednesday, April 21, 1926, Elizabeth II reigned from Wednesday, February 6, 1952 as Queen of the United Kingdom until her death on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest by any British monarch and the second longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country.
Queen Elizabeth 11 has been described as “Britain’s Beacon of Stability”.
Buckingham Palace announced the death of the Queen on Thursday, September 8, 2022. The statement from Buckingham Castle said “the Queen died peacefully this afternoon”.
Prior to her death, she has cancelled a virtual meeting of her Privy Council on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 after being asked by her doctors to rest.
She was placed on medical supervision at the Balmoral Castle, one of her estates in the Scottish Highlands.
Revered as the world’s oldest monarch whose 70 years reign spanned from 1952 in the post-war years to September 2022, Queen Elizabeth II is reputed to have built the British empire leading her through periods of uncertainty to experience economic growth and social change.
Her eldest son, Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, who until today was the Prince of Wales, has taken over the throne as King Charles III following her death.
