The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Justice Muhammad Abdullahi Tanko as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

He was confirmed on Wednesday after a grueling screening by the Senators at the National Assembly.

Tanko succeeds Justice Walter Onnoghen who was ousted from office when he was convicted of failure to declare his assets and barred from public office for a period of 10 years.
