The National Universities Commission (NUC), the regulatory agency in charge of tertiary education in Nigeria, has directed Vice Chancellors of various universities across the country to resume full academic activities in line with the directive of the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19.
This newest directive to the universities was contained in a letter signed by the Director, Directorate of the Executive Secretary’s Office, Chris Mayaiki and made available to Kristina Reports was dated September 18, 2020.
The directive equally advised universities across the country to keep to the Covid-19 regulations and ensure that they provide basic hygienic environment for staff and students in their various campuses.
It also informed the tertiary institutions that the NUC and the Federal Ministry of Education will pay unscheduled visits to the various university campuses to ascertain their adherence to the Covid-19 regulations as advised.
With this latest directives, the institutions are expected to resume as may be directed by their State’s Ministry of Education who will help facilitate the implementation of the directives.
The implication, therefore, is that anytime soon the gates of the various universities will be thrown open for students to resume academic activities. This therefore entails that university students should gear up and expect that anytime soon their institution’s will call them back to their classrooms.
