In a bid to reposition the game of scrabble, the Bayelsa State Scrabble Association has appointed the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Alabrah, as its Chairman. Also appointed as Vice Chairman was Timiibieri Woko.
The appointment of the duo, which takes immediate effect, was communicated through a letter signed by the State Director of Sports, Braveman Wodi, and Secretary of the State Sports Council, Robin Apreala.
The State Sports Council acknowledged that both Alabrah and Woko had made very significant contribution to the development of scrabble in the state.
Alabrah succeeds a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tonye Isenah.
Reacting to the appointment, Head Coach of scrabble, Preye Okorodas, said the appointment of the duo was in recognition of their immense contribution to the growth of scrabble in the state.
Okorodas lamented that despite the successes recorded in scrabble over the years, the game was still begging for attention.
He noted that if proper attention was accorded to scrabble, Bayelsans would be celebrated globally as champions.
