Afraid of what Nigerian workers may do, the President Bola Tinubu led Federal Government has released the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero two hours after the NLC issued an ultimatum which expires by midnight, Monday, September 9, 2024.
Activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, disclosed this in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday night.
He stated that the Department of State Services (DSS), which arbitrarily arrested the nation’s number one worker, released him on bail minutes before the NLC deadline expired.
Ajaero was arrested on Monday, September 9, 2024 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while en route to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.
He was scheduled to participate in the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which starts today.
Sowore stated, “The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail. The @NLCHeadquarters must declare for #FearlessInOctober #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria. No Going Back.”
The NLC had convened an emergency meeting, demanding his release by midnight on Monday to prevent a shutdown of the economy.
