Just five days before the official ” boxing” day of the year, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will host the “Day of Reckoning” featuring Nigeria’s Anthony Joshua and several high profile match ups comprising of former world champions, contenders at heavyweight, cruiserweight and light heavyweight.
On Saturday, December 23, 2023, for his third bout of the year, Antony Joshua will take on Otto Wallin in a bid to set up a bout with Deontay Wilder, who will fight Joseph Parker on the same night.
The former world champion Joseph Parker is convinced he has an opportunity to upset Wilder and spoil the party which is Antony Joshua’s anticipated fight with Deontay Wilder.
“Not taking anything away from Deontay Wilder and his team, but he’s had his time, What is he 37, 38 years old? Everyone thinks that Wilder is the favorite, let them think that. Let them say what they want to say. It’s going to be a big party and I’m going to be there to spoil it.
“They’re trying to set up this massive fight, of course it’s going to be a massive fight, but when you count out the others that are involved, it could be your downfall.”
Wilder has been out of action for over a year since he made minced meat of Robert Helenius in October of 2022.
The two former world heavyweight champions are fighting to stay relevant and to face Anthony Joshua in 2024. Parker reigned as WBO champion from 2016 to 2018; Wilder was WBC champion from 2015 to 2020.
On the other side of the divide, Anthony Joshua will take on tricky Southpaw, Otto Wallin and look to put up a performance convincing enough to show the boxing world he still got game.
Antony Joshua revealed that he is set to finish the year in good fashion.
“I said at the start of this year that my plan was to begin my journey of activity. Three fights in 12 months two victories and one pending. I am grateful to his Excellency Turki Alalshikh for the opportunity to fulfill my plan. I am fully focused on December 23 and finishing the year in good fashion. It will be an incredible night of world class boxing.”
