Students of Bonny origin across tertiary institutions within and outside Nigeria under the aegis of National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS) will observe a Black Friday this weekend to mark the demise of one of their leaders, Opubo Pepple, who passed on after a brief illness.
The late Opubo Pepple was the Chapter President of NUBS Abia State University (ABSU) Chapter.
According to a statement signed by the National President of NUBS Worldwide, Daniel Chapp-Jumbo, all chapters of the union across all tertiary institutions in Nigeria and in the Diaspora will hold ‘Dead March Procession’ in their respective campuses as a mark of last respect to their fallen leader.
In the statement, Chapp-Jumbo described the late student unionist as “an adviser to many, a friend to all, a brother in the struggle and a true leader with great ideas and a capacity president of NUBS ABSU Chapter.”
He stated that “It is with great pains in our hearts that we, as a Union, announce to the public of the painful demise of our brother, friend, comrade, and leader, COMR. GREAT OPUBO PEPPLE, who was taken away from us after a brief illness”.
The NUBS leader, on behalf of all Bonny students, extended condolence to the bereaved family of the deceased, adding that all his counterparts join the family in mourning their departed colleague.
“We therefore extend our condolence to the family of the deceased and join them in mourning.”
The late Opubo Pepple was a 300 level Microbiology student of the Abia State University before his demise, who many described as affable, easy going and accessible.
On his part, the Speaker of the Chapter Representatives Council (CRC) of NUBS, Godswill Jumbo expressed sadness over the demise of the late Opubo Pepple, saying that he was a personal friend whose death will remain a personal loss, lamenting that the whole CRC members were saddened by the loss.
Jumbo, who is an HND Computer Science student of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, maintained that the late student leader, who was his secondary school mate, was an inspiration to many students and someone everyone loved, praying that his soul should repose in the bosom of the Lord.
