Bonny Environment Under Attack as Dead Fishes Splash Shorelines

Wednesday, February 21, 2024 is a terrible day for the environment as dead fishes of different species were seen littering the shores of a creek in Bonny Island.

Kristina Reports reliably learnt that the impacted creek is lying between the alpha jetty of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) and Shell Nigeria’s Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal (BOGT) in Bonny, Rivers State.

This appears to be a repeat of the dead fish incident of 2020 when hordes of a particular fish, the Croaker, were seen either dead or gasping for life along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

There is no explanation yet on why this is happening but enquiries have been sent to both NLNG and Shell on the matter.

Also, the Kristina Reports team observed that on top of the water in the creek can be seen chemical compounds suspected to be crude oil or effluxions from nearby pipes.

Sources told Kristina Reports that some organizations in Bonny LGA have obtained samples of the water around the area where the dead fishes were found for forensic examination. Kristina Reports will bring ongoing updates on the matter. Watch our space.
