ARISE Agenda: Akwa Ibom Governor Pledges Improved Justice Delivery Via Partnership, Support to Judiciary

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno says his administration will continue to partner with and support the Judiciary in the has promised to work hand in hand with, as well as support the judiciary to ensure the success and realization of the ARISE agenda of his administration.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, made this commitment on Monday, September 18 2023 during an interdenominational church service held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Wellington Bassey Way in Uyo to begin the 2023/2024 legal year.

Eno explained that his administration is very aware of the concept of separation of power and has a lot of faith in the judiciary and its ability to carry out its duties with no interference from the executive to ensure the success of the ARISE Agenda

“We stand here fully conscious of the principles of separation of power…our government believes totally in the judiciary that is why we will continue to work with the Judiciary because without a functional Judiciary, the ARISE Agenda will be jeopardized.”

He added that his government will partner with the Judiciary to ensure that what needs to be done will be done to ensure the improvement of correctional facilities as well as fast-tracking the trial process of suspects.

Umo Eno also called on other law enforcement agencies and officers to join hands to ensure that the prison environments are more serene.

“We will support you on moves you may initiate or have already initiated, especially on prison decongestion and speedy trial of those who may have allegedly violated the law and disturbed public peace and the discharge of those who have been wrongly detained.”

“My administration will obey court orders and will not interfere with the Judiciary. I want to urge all law enforcement officers to work with the Judiciary to ensure that prisons are decongested”.

While wishing them well in the 2023/2024 legal year, the governor appreciated the arm for their support since he was sworn in as governor and promised to ensure that the state remains conducive for them.

“As you start the new legal year, let me restate my commitment to working with you, to ensure that we continue to enjoy the peace that we have been enjoying in the state.”
