On Fire! Cyriel Dessers Scores Sensational Brace as Panathinaikos Demolish Kairat Almaty 5-1
Cyriel Dessers continues to prove unstoppable in front of goal, delivering a clinical two-goal performance to power Panathinaikos to a commanding 5-1 triumph over Kairat Almaty in their UEFA Conference League showdown.
The Nigerian international made his mark in Kazakhstan, striking twice at the Ortalyq Stadion to help the Greek heavyweights secure back-to-back European victories in dominant style.
The 31-year-old Super Eagles forward is in remarkable form, having now found the back of the net in three consecutive matches.
His latest double follows goals in Panathinaikos’ 5-1 Super League routing of Asteras Tripolis and a crucial strike in their 2-1 Conference League victory over Borac Banja Luka.
Dessers’ double takes his season stats to an impressive 8 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions—including 6 in the Conference League and 2 in the Greek domestic league.
Though replaced in the 56th minute by Elmin Rastoder, Dessers had already done the damage and set the stage for a memorable away victory.
Panathinaikos asserted their dominance early, taking the lead just six minutes into the contest when Vicente Taborda swept home a well-placed pass from Giorgos Kyriakopoulos.
From there, Dessers stole the spotlight:
34th Minute: Dessers stepped up to coolly convert a penalty, doubling the visitors’ lead.
47th Minute: Just after the second-half restart, Andrews Tetteh set up Dessers to net his second goal of the night with a calm finish.
With the forward’s brace putting the match well out of reach, Panathinaikos kept up the intensity:
Kings Kangwa made it 4-0 in the 57th minute with a sharp finish.
Substitute Elmin Rastoder completed the five-goal haul in the 75th minute.
Kairat Almaty pulled back a late consolation goal through Ismail Bekbolat in the 79th minute, but it was far too late to stop a relentless Panathinaikos side from marching away with all three points in a thrilling 5-1 victory.
