SEGZY Wins ₦500,000 BIGI Music Competition at FUNAAB

Fadina Segun Samson, popularly known as SEGZY, has emerged winner of the BIGI Music Competition at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), securing a reported ₦500,000 cash prize during Soundcity OnTour 2026 in Ogun State.

SEGZY clinched the top position ahead of Olawumi David, known professionally as Dayvo, and Adebayo Moyinoluwa, known as Sourde, who finished second and third, respectively, at the competition held as part of the three-day campus entertainment programme from Wednesday, October 7, to Friday, October 9, 2026.

The competition featured a reported total prize pool of ₦1 million, with SEGZY receiving ₦500,000, Dayvo earning ₦350,000 and Sourde taking home ₦150,000, according to published event reports.

The programme combined music performances, dance competitions, interactive games and other entertainment activities designed to give students opportunities to showcase their creative abilities before wider audiences.

Sponsored by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of Rite Foods Limited, Soundcity OnTour 2026 is a nationwide campus entertainment and talent-discovery initiative aimed at engaging young Nigerians while providing emerging performers with opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.

Speaking ahead of the FUNAAB activation, Biola Aransiola, BIGI’s brand manager, said the initiative was created to encourage young people to express their creativity.

“Young Nigerians are full of talent, creativity and big dreams, and we want to create spaces where they can bring their creativity to life,” Aransiola said.

The FUNAAB edition culminated in a grand concert on Friday, October 9, following three days of campus activities that placed music, dance and student participation at the centre of the programme.

Beyond the campus competition, the regional finals produced another set of results, with Taiwo Oladapo Opeyemi, professionally known as T.Boss, representing Yaba College of Technology, emerging first.

SEGZY, representing FUNAAB, finished second at the regional finals, while Alabi David, known as The Vyine, representing the University of Ibadan, secured third place.

The regional results distinguish SEGZY’s victory at the FUNAAB campus competition from his subsequent second-place finish at the wider contest.

Commenting on the initiative, Aransiola said the availability of platforms for emerging performers was essential to helping young artistes gain recognition and develop their talents.

“There is no shortage of talent on Nigerian campuses.”

“What matters is creating platforms where young artistes can be heard, recognised and encouraged to go further.”

“Seeing them step up and earn their moment in the spotlight is what makes this initiative worthwhile,” she said.

Soundcity OnTour 2026 is expanding to 20 institutions, following its debut across 10 campuses in 2023, with music competitions, dance challenges, interactive experiences and live concerts forming part of its programme.

For emerging performers, initiatives of this nature provide opportunities to compete, perform before audiences and build visibility beyond their immediate academic communities.

Following the conclusion of the FUNAAB activation, the tour is scheduled to proceed to Kwara State University, where more student performers are expected to showcase their talents.

SEGZY’s victory places him among the performers recognised during the FUNAAB edition, although further details about his musical background, previous releases and plans following the competition were not established in the published reports.

The competition adds to the growing number of campus entertainment initiatives seeking to connect young Nigerian performers with audiences while encouraging creativity and participation in the country’s music scene.
