Oyigbo Flood Victims Receive NEMA Relief Materials; LG Chairman Monitors distribution

Flood victims in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have received relief materials as the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. (Eld.) Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu, Ph.D., DSSRS, monitored the distribution exercise at the council secretariat.

The distribution took place on Wednesday, September 30, under the coordination of the Flood Management and Mitigation Committee, following directives from the donors, the Rivers State Government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

For the affected residents who have been dealing with the impact of flooding, the relief package provided some much-needed support as essential household items were distributed to vulnerable families.

The materials included bags of rice and beans, kitchen utensils, mattresses, pillows, gallons of red and groundnut oil, toiletries, buckets, blankets, mosquito nets and cartons of Indomie noodles, alongside other household essentials.

The orderly manner in which the exercise was conducted also drew positive reactions from beneficiaries, who expressed satisfaction with the distribution process.

Some of the affected residents thanked the Rivers State Government and NEMA for responding to their situation and providing assistance during a difficult period.

Monitoring the exercise, Akara Nwaogu expressed appreciation to the donors for their timely intervention and called for continued support for residents still facing challenges from the flooding.

The council chairman noted that the needs of affected families would not end with the distribution of relief materials, particularly as residents begin the post-flood recovery process.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable households and ensuring that relief efforts provide meaningful assistance to residents affected by the disaster.

Akara Nwaogu also reiterated the council’s determination to continue tackling the challenges posed by flooding in Oyigbo while supporting residents through the recovery period.
