Alhassan Yusuf Stuns MLS Fans With First Career Hat-Trick as New England Revolution Crush DC United
Alhassan Yusuf put on a breathtaking masterclass in clinical finishing, bagging a sensational first career hat-trick and claiming the official Man of the Match award after powering New England Revolution to a dominant away victory over D.C. United.
The Super Eagles midfielder scored a first-half brace before completing his historic treble in the second period as the Revs crushed their hosts 3-0 at Audi Field.
A pair of headers from Yusuf and an incredible hat-trick of assists from Jack Harrison sealed all three points for the visitors.
New England started strongly and broke through just 23 minutes into the match when Yusuf headed home a pinpoint cross from Harrison.
D.C. struggled to create any meaningful attacking opportunities, and the Black-and-Red fell further behind just before the break.
Yusuf doubled the advantage on the stroke of halftime, pouncing on yet another Harrison cross.
D.C. United needed a quick response after the restart, but the Revs effectively killed the game six minutes after the hour mark. Yusuf rose above his marker to head home Harrison’s third assist of the night, sealing a unforgettable treble.
D.C. never found a way back into the match as New England managed the remainder of the contest comfortably to secure the clean sheet.
It was a landmark night for the 26-year-old Nigerian, a central midfielder scoring three times in a single match.
Yusuf became the first Nigerian to score a hat-trick in an MLS regular-season game, while also delivering New England’s first league hat-trick since Kei Kamara in September 2017.
Yusuf has tormented D.C. United all year. He scored the winner and earned Man of the Match honors in a 1–0 victory back on April 11, bringing his tally to four goals in two meetings against the Black-and-Red this season.
The Super Eagles star now boasts seven goal contributions (five goals, two assists) in 20 matches.
His performance lifted the Revs to 4th place in the standings with 33 points as they turn their attention to Sunday’s clash against NYCFC.
