Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho fires Bursaspor to 2-0 win in impressive 1. Liga debut

Bursaspor kicked off their 2026/27 Turkish 1. Liga campaign in emphatic style on Sunday evening, securing a convincing 2-0 victory over Bodrum FK at the Grey Beton Bodrum Stadyumu — with new signing Kelechi Iheanacho stealing the headlines.

The Nigerian international needed just 27 minutes to make his mark in Turkish football.

Kelechi Iheanacho bags goal and assist on Bursaspor debut

Latching onto a precise lobbed pass from inside his own half, Iheanacho beat the offside trap, brought the ball under control with composure, and neatly bypassed the oncoming goalkeeper before slotting low into the bottom right corner.

Although the assistant referee initially raised the flag for offside, a swift VAR review overturned the call, confirming the Super Eagles striker was onside and giving the visitors a deserved lead.

Bursaspor kept their foot on the gas after the opener, controlling tempo and possession as the half progressed.

Just before the halftime whistle, Iheanacho turned provider. The 29-year-old linked up brilliantly with Lincoln Henrique, setting up his teammate to double the lead and send Bursaspor into the interval with a comfortable two-goal advantage.

Bodrum FK pushed for a route back into the contest after the restart, but Bursaspor’s defensive block stood firm, limiting the hosts to few clean sights on goal.

Neither team was able to alter the scoreline in the second half, allowing Bursaspor to coast to a clean-sheet victory and bag all three points on opening night.

Fresh off winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double with Celtic last season, Iheanacho has seamlessly transitioned into his new adventure in Turkey.
